Inspired by the Toccata of Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, this lively and virtuosic work, derives its tremendous energy from a constant whirling around a never-changing harmonic motive. This compositional idea is reflected in the image of a Still Life whose subject may be "un-moving," while the emotional landscape it engenders is in constant flux and evolution.
