3 movts: Introduction, Allegro vivo; Serenely calm;
Allegro molto
Duration: 21’
Commission: Philip J. Krone Foundation for Zuill Bailey
Premiere: Zuill Bailey, JY Song, National Gallery of

Written for cellist Zuill Bailey, the cello Sonata
bridges the language gap between Brahms and Debussy.
In it the composer blends the rigorous linear contrapuntal
development of the German tradition with the subtle
coloristic constructions found in the French impressionists.
The last movement is cast in a unique form named by
the composer as a "spiraling rondo."
