| Ballade
for Flute and String Orchestra, (arr.) 2008
A single movement work in concerto style for solo
Flute and String Orchestra
Duration: 16'
Publisher: Rassel Editions, NY
Commissioned by Flutist April Clayton, the Ballade
for Flute and String Quintet (or String Orchestra) is
a single-movement work which spans a wide spectrum of
emotions. The composer writes: "The world of sound
being for me the best arena to explore the irrational,
it was my goal in this piece to evolve an emotional
landscape rather than to concentrate on abstract compositional
aspects of form. This work is a Ballade in the truest
sense of the word; a 'wandering' through many emotional
states, where moods reflect, react against, yield to
or trigger one another -- a wordless monologue of feelings
struggling with one another like a Freudian Ego struggling
with the Id."
